Artificial island near the coast of Jakarta

Main contractor: Islands Building company

Works on this object included designing and constructing an artificial island area of 160 hectares off the coast of Jakarta.

The construction of the new island implies the reclamation of about 160 hectares of land, requiring more than 20 million cubic meters of sand. Following the project dredgers for dredging and reclamation activities are being used and sand is supplied from local quarries. The project also involves soil improvement and cladding.

The new island will be used for housing and commercial purposes

The project is part of the master plan for the construction of a completely new urban area in the historical bay of Jakarta on the northern coast of the city, with a total area of 450 hectares. The master plan aims to develop housing for the rapidly growing population of Jakarta and to protect Jakarta from rising sea levels.
