Punta Pacifica

Construction of the artificial island and recultivation

Main contractor: Islands Building company

Panama's coastlines are becoming more and more populous, and, while the economy of the country was growing over the past 10 years, there has been a strong demand for high-quality real estate.

The construction of a new artificial island to house this grade of real estate on it is a logical step to meet this kind of demand.

Dredging and utilization of soft sediments that lay on the weathered layer of rocks became the first stage of the project implementation. Then works on the construction of the stone dam began.

Even before the designing started a detailed study of the soil in the quarry area was conducted to determine the availability of various necessary soils for construction. In total, five different types of soil were used as raw materials, which increased economic efficiency while maintaining the stability of the island's design.

The inner part of the mountain dam was covered with geotextiles to prevent the sand from washing through the dam back into the ocean.
